Project Description

Heathrow Terminal 2B

After successfully working on Terminal 5 on the new rail station, Munnelly Group were appointed to support the construction of the new Terminal 2B project with Balfour Beatty.

At £592 million, this was one of the largest airside projects in Heathrow’s history and now provides pier-served tunnel links to the main Terminal 2.

Balfour Beatty’s integrated approach enabled our customer to open three aircraft stands three months early, helping them to ease stand congestion.

The project included the construction of the satellite pier that had the largest diaphragm wall in Europe at the time, as well as the use of over 165,000 m3 of reinforced concrete.

T2B included a basement measuring 377m long, 15m deep, 60m wide at the ends and 100m wide in the middle. At peak there were over 4,000 operatives on the project and MSSL provided 230 security cleared operatives across the project managing the logistics.
